Liberal Family Update

Windsor Tecumseh —

We are pleased to report on a great start to the Fall session.

Come meet the Liberal ExpressLiberal Express Update …
It is hard to believe, but the Liberal Express is still on the move. Last weekend, the team was in Gatineau where Michael Ignatieff joined local candidate Steve MacKinnon and Ottawa-Orléans candidate David Bertschi to serve up some BBQ before heading to the annual soapbox derby. Also on board the bus was Mark Critch of This Hour has 22 Minutes. Watch the video here as he jokes with the Leader, and somehow finds a way to compare his summer wardrobe to that of Lady Gaga … a stretch, but hilarious nonetheless.

Monday saw the Liberal Express back on the Hill for the beginning of the fall session. A huge crowd greeted the bus under a beautiful sun with glowing comments all around on how far we have come since the launch of the Liberal Express on that rainy day in July.

Check out the for posts, video and photos from the tour.

The Liberal Express summer tour will come to an end this Saturday September 25th. The final event will bring Michael Ignatieff back to his riding of Etobicoke-Lakeshore for the Annual Protective Services BBQ. Click here for information, we would love to see you there.

Save lives. Save the Gun Registry…
Save Lives. Save the Gun RegistryStrong Leadership to make the gun registry work for rural and urban Canada? Check. A Gun Registry supported by Police chiefs, ER doctors, nurses and victims groups? Check. A united Liberal caucus who saved the gun registry in a close vote in the Commons? Check.

It was close, but a vote of 153 for and 151 against the motion to stop Bill C-391 passed in the House of Commons on Wednesday night. As Mr. Ignatieff told reporters after the vote, “If we can unite our Caucus on this, we can unite Canadians.”

Open mike …
Open mike - A micro ouvertAfter 57,000 kilometres on the Liberal Express, Michael Ignatieff will be embarking on a new series of events where he will continue to listen to Canadians. The Open mike series will see the Liberal Leader, joined by candidates and members of Caucus, engaging with Canadians at town hall events across the country. In stark contrast to Prime Minister Harper, Michael Ignatieff will leave the microphone open to Canadians, giving them the chance to share their views and ask questions on the issues that concern them.

Click here to register for the first town hall which will take place in Montreal with candidate Martin Cauchon in the riding of Outremont – the same riding where the École Polytechnique massacre took place in 1989, and led to the passage of the Firearms Act which introduced stricter gun control regulations in Canada, including the gun registry.

If you are not in Montreal but still wish to participate, you can do so online by following the live blog of the event.

Upcoming Open mike town halls are in the works for Winnipeg, Toronto and Ottawa to name a few. Stay tuned for more details.
